Aon
Full Credential Description
Aon plc launched the UK Work Insights Programme to address the challenges faced by college students from lower socio-economic backgrounds, particularly in light of rising inflation and the cost-of-living crisis. The programme aims to provide 1,000 work experience placements annually for three years, starting in February 2023. This initiative is designed to enhance social mobility and career opportunities for students aged 16 to 17, particularly those who have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic and economic uncertainties. The tailored solution includes both virtual and in-person work experience opportunities, partnering with state-funded schools to reach students who would benefit the most. The selection process is informed by diversity statistics, focusing on areas with high percentages of free school meals. The programme will offer 300 virtual placements and 700 hybrid placements at Aons major offices across the UK. Participants will engage in interactive learning sessions, panels, group projects, and networking opportunities, all facilitated by Aon employees. The initiative responds to a survey from The Open University indicating that 35% of young adults have had to rethink their career plans due to economic pressures, with many seeking additional courses to enhance their skills. Aons programme specifically targets the barriers that make the workplace intimidating and inaccessible for disadvantaged youth, aiming to create a sense of belonging and support. Sean Carney, Partner and Head of Human Capital Solutions at Aon UK, emphasized the importance of this programme in fostering diverse recruitment within the financial and professional services sectors, ultimately contributing to building more resilient workforces and generating greater opportunities for all.
