Full Credential Description
Aon's 2024 Voice of Women Study in India revealed significant challenges faced by professional women in the workplace. The study, which surveyed nearly 24,000 women from over 560 companies, highlighted that 42% of respondents experienced bias or potential bias at work, while 37% reported encountering insensitive behavior. Alarmingly, 6% of the women indicated they had faced sexual harassment, yet less than half of these incidents were officially reported. Additionally, working mothers faced notable setbacks, with 75% experiencing a career delay of one to two years post-maternity leave, and nearly 40% reporting negative impacts on their pay and job roles following their leave. In response to these findings, Aon emphasized the need for businesses to prioritize building an inclusive work culture, led by CEOs and decision-makers. The study underscored that women who faced bias were 3.5 times more likely to view their organizational experiences as unfair, with 21% considering leaving their jobs within a year, compared to just 6% of those who did not face bias. Aons research also indicated that the presence of female leaders positively influenced female employees' perceptions of their career growth and workplace culture, with 53% of women feeling more confident in their career trajectories when they had visible female leaders. The findings from the Voice of Women study contribute to Aons Womens Workplace Experience Index, which assesses women's experiences in the workplace. A higher positive experience score correlates with greater representation of women in the workforce. Aon advocates for businesses to deepen their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) efforts by actively listening to women and utilizing data-driven insights to remove barriers and reframe policies that support women at various life stages.
