Bird & Bird, an international law firm with over 1,300 lawyers, faced challenges in effectively communicating their employee benefits to their UK workforce. The existing Total Reward Statements were overly complex and difficult for employees to navigate, leading to a lack of engagement with the benefits offered. Additionally, there was a need to better integrate onsite benefits, such as lifestyle perks, into the overall benefits communication strategy, as these were often overlooked by employees. To address these issues, Aon collaborated with Bird & Bird to develop a refreshed online benefits platform that would streamline the presentation of benefits and enhance employee understanding and engagement. The solution involved creating a new internal benefits brand that utilized a more engaging tone of voice, moving away from purely informative content. Aon implemented a multi-channel communication strategy that included tailored emails and flyers to ensure that different employee segments received relevant information. The launch of the new platform resulted in significant quantifiable outcomes. The number of active employees increased by 20%, from 561 in 2017 to 682 in 2018. Engagement with the online portal was high, with 70% of employees (478 out of 682) actively submitting their benefit choices. The platform also successfully reached Partners, with 30% logging in and making selections. The introduction of the Aon App further enhanced user experience, leading to 971 page views and an average usage time of 5 minutes per employee. Overall, the initiative not only improved employee engagement but also facilitated savings for both employees and the firm through various benefits selections.
