The SBTi Services Validation Portal underwent a significant upgrade launched on June 18, 2025, aimed at enhancing the science-based target setting experience for corporate users. Prior to this upgrade, the submission process relied heavily on spreadsheets, which posed challenges in terms of user experience and data validation. Companies expressed a need for a more intuitive navigation system, clearer progress indicators, and improved real-time support. The upgrade was designed based on extensive user feedback, resulting in a streamlined, user-friendly interface that digitizes the entire target submission journey—from registration to validation.

The new portal introduces a step-by-step digital submission format that simplifies the process and minimizes errors. Automated checks now flag data issues before submission, allowing companies to address gaps at their own pace rather than under pressure during the validation review. Users benefit from flexible navigation, enabling them to move between tabs, save progress, and revisit questions without following a strict order. Clear progress indicators and built-in explanations provide teams with a clear understanding of their status and required actions. Additionally, the platform allows full ownership and control over submissions, facilitating better collaboration among consultants and internal team members through multi-user access and shared dashboards. The structured 30-day validation timeline enhances predictability and planning for companies.

While the upgrade primarily targeted corporate users, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and financial institutions (FIs) also received tailored improvements. SMEs are now prompted with two additional questions during submission to ensure they are on the correct validation pathway, thereby improving efficiency and reducing the risk of errors. FIs can now enter key data points that are reflected on the SBTi Target Dashboard, enhancing the accuracy and transparency of published information.

To support users through this transition, SBTi Services developed a comprehensive suite of resources, including an introductory blog, FAQs, a summary overview of the Corporate Submission Manual, detailed guidance, and tutorial videos. This upgrade represents a key milestone in SBTi Services’ mission to scale science-based target validation, enabling more companies to set and validate ambitious climate goals and supporting the global transition to a net-zero economy.
