Regtransfers is the UK’s largest independent private number plates specialist, providing services to clients throughout the UK. The Scope Regtransfers have been a leading supplier of personalised number plates for some time, but their need to stay relevant and at the top of their league presents an ongoing battle against competitors. As part of an ongoing SEO strategy, we constructed a number of Digital PR campaigns, seeking to improve their rankings alongside our link-building campaigns, which focussed on niche-relevant blogs and sites The Objectives 01 Improve rankings for keywords in an ultra-competitive industry 02 Achieve coverage and backlinks in Regional and National news 03 Position Regtransfers as a leading voice in the motoring industry Our Strategy Our goal of positioning the client as an expert and leading voice of the broader motoring industry began with the understanding that motoring is a multifaceted subject with the potential to generate a variety of headline-worthy stories. We knew that our focus would need to expand to broader topics of interest around driving, such as learning to drive, technological advancement in vehicle technologies, insurance premiums, vehicle crime, accidents and the laws of the road. Our campaigns needed to strike a balance between achieving topical relevance to the client’s niche and generating stories that would captivate the interest of the media and the general public. With this in mind, our research began with gaining an understanding of the media landscape around motoring. Our Approach We identified the most lucrative “themes” in motoring, pinpointing seasonal shifts in trending topics through the year in both search and media coverage. When exploring these concepts, more current interests such as electric vehicles and self-driving cars were also considered, in order to keep our ideas on the cutting edge of interest. Based on this extensive research, we mapped four motoring “themes” to cover through the year – one per quarter. Each quarter marked the start of a three-month marathon of careful planning and execution to form exciting and attention-grabbing Digital PR campaigns. Q1 began with exploring the theme of learning to drive, and conducting research into public opinion on whether parents or their 17-year-old child should finance the cost of driving lessons and first car – a timely piece, given the cost of living crisis. Q2 shifted towards the captivating topic of vehicle crime and the law, making use of government data to reveal headline-worthy statistics around car theft and seemingly innocuous driving habits that could, in fact, result in hefty fines. Entering into Q3, we explored finances of owning a car – a subject that has made headlines throughout the year as a result of increasing insurance premiums. Each quarter’s theme has been selected with strategy in mind, taking into consideration the media buzz and public interest to capture the interest of high-level media partners. Aside from generating strong, valuable backlinks for Regtransfers, our campaigns have been designed to inform and educate – positioning the client as a knowledgeable expert and authoritative voice in their industry.
