Investment & Fund Management

Full Credential Description
Petr Mikí?ek, the founder of Best Sequence, faced a unique challenge in preserving the cultural memory of the Czech-German borderlands, particularly the Sudetenland, which has seen significant historical upheaval. After the expulsion of Sudeten Germans post-World War II, the area transitioned to a predominantly Czech-speaking population, leading to a gradual loss of its rich cultural heritage. To address this issue, Petr sought to create an engaging way to educate the public about the region's history and its significance.
To tackle this niche problem, Best Sequence developed a project that combines film, photography, and Augmented Reality (AR) to reconstruct and animate abandoned villages, churches, and houses in the Ore Mountains, which were devastated during the Soviet era. This innovative approach was supported by an EU-guaranteed loan from Komercni Banka, backed by the European Investment Fund (EIF) under the Investment Plan for Europe. The project aims to produce 3D reconstructions that users can access through a smartphone app, allowing them to visualize the historical structures as they once were.
The results of this initiative are expected to be transformative. By utilizing AR technology, users can interactively engage with the past, enhancing their understanding of the region's history. Petr emphasizes that this method is the most effective way to connect with history, as it allows users to see beyond the physical remnants of the past. Additionally, the project aims to revitalize cultural life in the border region, fostering a sense of community and shared European identity, which is crucial for countering the historical animosities that have lingered in the area. Through this project, Best Sequence not only preserves history but also aims to energize and culturally enrich the Czech-German borderlands.
