Full Credential Description

Video Instan, a prominent audiovisual and social entrepreneurship business in Barcelona, faced significant challenges due to the rise of online streaming platforms, which threatened its traditional video rental model. With over 45,000 titles, including rare VHS collections, the business struggled to compete with the convenience and variety offered by digital services. Aurora Depares, the owner, recognized the need to adapt to changing consumer behaviors and preferences, particularly the shift towards individual viewing experiences on personal devices.

To combat these challenges, Aurora adopted a strategy inspired by Steve Jobs, focusing on selling experiences rather than just products. She aimed to create a communal atmosphere around film viewing, emphasizing the importance of shared experiences among families and friends. To support this vision, Video Instan secured an EU-guaranteed loan from Triodos Bank, facilitated by the European Investment Fund (EIF) under the Investment Plan for Europe. This funding enabled the business to expand by adding a cinema and a café, transforming it into a community hub for film enthusiasts.

The new cinema, featuring thirty-two seats, allows for family and school viewings, press releases, and themed film cycles proposed by customers. This participatory approach not only enhances customer engagement but also promotes local artists and fosters discussions on relevant social themes, such as feminism, as seen in recent screenings. Aurora's commitment to reinventing Video Instan has positioned it as a cultural reference point in the film industry, contributing positively to the local community and the creative sector. Through these strategic adaptations, Video Instan has successfully navigated the pressures of digital competition while enriching the cultural landscape of Barcelona.
