Full Credential Description
C-Feed, a Norwegian company specializing in eco-innovation for fish feed, faced significant challenges in the sustainable cultivation of fish, particularly in providing live feed for saltwater species like tuna and halibut. Traditional methods resulted in high mortality rates among young fish during critical early stages, which hindered the efficiency and sustainability of fish farming. Recognizing the urgent need for a solution amidst increasing global food resource competition, C-Feed developed a method to produce copepods and copepod eggs, which have proven to significantly reduce mortality rates and promote healthier growth in fish fry.
To support its growth and transition from small-scale production to industrialization, C-Feed opened a new production plant in February 2016, which enabled a tenfold increase in production capacity. This expansion is projected to supply enough copepods to raise 50-60 million farmed fish. The company received crucial funding from SINTEF Venture IV, a technology transfer fund that commercializes eco-innovation results from research, which has been backed by the European Investment Fund (EIF) since 2013. This investment not only facilitated C-Feed's operational scaling but also positioned it as a leader in sustainable fish feed production, addressing both market demand and environmental concerns in aquaculture.
