In 2015, Kristina Brinck faced the challenge of launching an online platform, Modsvar, designed to allow small Danish designers to sell their products directly to consumers in small quantities. The concept aimed to mitigate the risks associated with over-production while offering customers discounts of up to 35% on designer goods. However, Kristina was unable to leave her full-time job to pursue this venture due to financial constraints. Although several investors approached her, she declined their offers to maintain full control over her project.

To overcome this hurdle, Kristina secured an EU-guaranteed loan facilitated by the Danish Growth Fund, Vækstfonden, and backed by the European Investment Fund (EIF) under the Investment Plan for Europe. This financial support enabled her to quit her job and focus entirely on her business. The loan was crucial, as it allowed her to retain ownership of her company without compromising her vision or control.

Since obtaining the loan, Kristina has primarily utilized the funds for operational expenses and is now planning to hire additional staff to further expand her business. The tailored solution provided by the EIF not only addressed her immediate financial needs but also empowered her to realize her entrepreneurial aspirations without sacrificing equity in her company.
