Insane Logic, based in London, UK, addresses the critical issue of communication for individuals with speech, language, or communication needs. The founders, Zoe Peden and Andrew Jackman, recognized a gap in accessible and affordable support for children, parents, and teachers in improving speech and communication skills. They developed MyChoicePad, a language development program that integrates proven speech and language therapy techniques with cutting-edge technology, specifically designed for tablet computers.
The challenge they faced was the lack of suitable technology to implement their innovative symbol and gesture-based communication app. This obstacle was overcome with the launch of the first tablet computer in 2010, which provided a cost-effective platform for their app, officially released in May 2011. Over the years, Insane Logic has grown significantly, moving from a small back bedroom operation to dedicated office space by September 2013.
The impact of MyChoicePad has been profound. For instance, it has enabled a seven-year-old girl named Lucy, who experienced speech delays, to enhance her sign language skills and improve her communication, allowing her to catch up with her peers. Similarly, Richard, a teenager with Down Syndrome, has benefited from an expanded vocabulary, while Charmaine, who has a chromosome disorder affecting her communication abilities, has gained a sense of control over expressing her needs and wants. Through the support of the Social Venture Fund II, Insane Logic continues to make strides in empowering individuals with communication challenges.
