Investment & Fund Management
The EIB
Full Credential Description
The EIB Group, which includes the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Investment Fund (EIF), has partnered with Santander to facilitate a significant investment in energy efficiency in Portugal, amounting to 183 million. This initiative specifically addresses the need for improved energy efficiency in existing buildings and the construction of new buildings that adhere to high energy efficiency standards.
The tailored solution involves a synthetic securitisation where the EIB Group provides Santander with 91.6 million of unfunded protection for an upper-mezzanine tranche. This structure enables Santander to offer 183 million in new financing for green mortgages, effectively doubling the amount available for energy-efficient projects. The beneficiaries of this financing include individuals, homeowners associations, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and mid-caps, all of whom will have access to competitive financing terms aimed at reducing CO? emissions and enhancing climate resilience.
The operation is designed to support investments of up to 25 million per project, with a maximum financing limit of 12.5 million and a minimum term of two years. This partnership not only aims to scale up financing for energy-efficient housing in Portugal but also contributes to the broader objectives of the EIB as Europes climate bank, promoting sustainable projects and facilitating the transition towards a greener economy.
