Full Credential Description
codary, a Berlin-based online coding school, faced significant challenges in addressing the digital skills gap among children and teenagers in Germany. The CEO and co-founder, Amanda Maiwald, highlighted that the digitalization of schools was lagging, with many institutions lacking essential resources such as laptops and Wi-Fi. This situation was exacerbated during the pandemic when schools struggled to engage students remotely. Additionally, there was a notable shortage of individuals with the necessary computer skills to facilitate this digital transformation.
To tackle these issues, codary developed a range of coding courses tailored for children and teenagers, covering topics like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Python. The courses were designed to be engaging and age-appropriate, with a focus on making learning fun to maintain student interest. Recognizing the gender disparity in tech, codary also aimed to promote computer science among girls, addressing societal perceptions that discourage female participation in STEM fields.
To support its mission, codary secured investment from Educapital, a female-led venture capital firm specializing in the edtech sector. This funding was utilized to expand their team, enhance their platform, and improve outreach efforts. The goal was to maximize their impact by raising awareness about the importance of IT skills for all children, regardless of gender. Looking ahead, codary plans to continue hiring, develop more classes, and educate parents on the value of coding education for both their sons and daughters.
