A major global components manufacturer faced significant challenges, including high levels of parts inventory and a backlog of past-due sales orders that it was unable to fulfill. The company experienced shortages of key parts, which delayed the delivery of complete bills-of-materials, inflated inventory levels, and caused downtime in critical manufacturing lines, leading to cash constraints.

we was engaged to address the immediate issue of critical parts shortages to unlock sales. However, upon further investigation, it became clear that the root causes of the performance issues were related to data availability and ineffective sales and operations planning (S&OP). To tackle these underlying problems, we implemented key S&OP initiatives and established a project-management structure that collaborated with suppliers to source essential components.

As a result of these efforts, the team successfully resolved the entire $20 million backlog of past-due sales. Additionally, they developed a digital control tower equipped with automated data feeds to enhance visibility, enabling the client’s planning and purchasing teams to address challenges in real-time. Comprehensive training was provided across the organization to facilitate the adoption of these new processes. Ultimately, the client was positioned to capitalize on new opportunities, achieving $80 million in enabled sales within just 13 weeks.
