Froxá, a family business based in Cantabria, Spain, specializes in the distribution of fish, seafood, and frozen meals. Founded by Abel Fernández in 1983, the company faced challenges in maintaining efficiency and quality in its processing operations due to the complex logistics involved in sourcing and preparing its products. To address these issues, Froxá sought to centralize its processing capabilities and enhance its technological infrastructure.

With the assistance of an EU-guaranteed loan through Liberbank, backed by the European Investment Fund (EIF), Froxá invested in high-tech equipment that allowed for in-house processing of precooked meals and frozen products. This investment was particularly beneficial for optimizing the processing of ‘KM 0’ products, which are sourced locally, such as anchovies from the Cantabrian Sea. By processing these products on the same day they are purchased from local fish markets, Froxá has been able to offer exceptionally nutritious products with a clean label, significantly enhancing their market value.

The results of this investment have been substantial. Within just six months, one of Froxá’s production lines saw a remarkable 35% increase in sales, demonstrating the effectiveness of the new processing capabilities. This technological advancement not only improved operational efficiency but also positioned Froxá for further international expansion, as the company has begun to open offices in Asia and Latin America while maintaining its leadership in the local market. The commitment to continuous investment in technology has been emphasized by Aquilino Fernández, the current General Director, who recognizes the necessity of staying competitive in a rapidly evolving industry.
