Full Credential Description

Antoine Soive, the owner of Drôle de Pain, a bakery in Montpellier, faced the challenge of integrating social responsibility and environmental sustainability into his business model. Since its inception in 2013, Drôle de Pain has focused on providing work placements for individuals from vulnerable groups, including ex-convicts, substance abusers, and the unemployed, who make up about half of his workforce. The dual challenge Antoine encountered was to enhance the employability of these individuals by imparting professional skills while also fostering essential life skills such as self-confidence and communication.

To address these challenges, Antoine implemented a comprehensive training program that not only focused on baking skills but also on personal development. This approach required significant effort but proved to be rewarding for both the employees and the business. Additionally, to minimize his carbon footprint, Antoine sourced ingredients locally and utilized renewable energy. A unique aspect of his waste management strategy involved cycling waste to a nearby farm, where it was converted into compost for growing fruits and vegetables that were then purchased for use in his bakery.

With financial backing from LaNef through a loan guaranteed by the EU and supported by the European Investment Fund (EIF), Antoine was able to renovate and open a second bakery. This expansion led to the hiring of ten new employees, and now, with three bakeries in operation, Drôle de Pain employs over twenty people. Antoine firmly believes that social enterprise benefits all stakeholders involved, contributing positively to the community and the economy. His commitment to values over mere profit exemplifies a model of responsible business that prioritizes social impact alongside financial success.
