SecureMailbox, founded in Stockholm in 2011, identified significant challenges in data protection amidst the evolving landscape of EU regulations. With the EU reviewing its data protection laws, the company aimed to provide a European solution to meet these new standards. The primary issue was the security risks associated with the transmission of sensitive information, which included threats like information leaks and identity theft.

To address these challenges, SecureMailbox developed a transmission platform that utilizes advanced encryption technology to protect messages. This platform allows users, including doctors, laboratories, banks, and government entities, to exchange sensitive information securely over the internet. Notably, SecureMailbox became the first cloud service provider to receive a ‘Privasee SEAL’ for compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The tailored solution provided by Almi Företagspartner, an EIF financial intermediary, was an EU-guaranteed loan backed by the Investment Plan for Europe. This financial support enabled SecureMailbox to expand its workforce and facilitate international growth. Additionally, the company launched the SecureAppbox in 2015, which allows for the development of government and e-health applications that comply with EU data privacy regulations and integrate seamlessly with SecureMailbox.

As a result of this support, SecureMailbox was able to open new offices in the Nordic region by December 2016, significantly enhancing its operational capacity and market reach. The CEO, Anders Jonson, expressed satisfaction with the partnership, highlighting the attractive loan conditions and the long-term support from Almi Företagspartner as crucial to the company's advancement.
