GRIN, an innovative start-up based in Italy, faced the challenge of promoting urban gardening among city dwellers who often lack the space and resources for traditional gardening. Founded by Salvatore Martorina, a young entrepreneur with a background in biology, GRIN aimed to transform balconies and rooftops into green spaces where individuals could grow their own fruits and vegetables. To address the financial needs of establishing the business, GRIN received a start-up loan from the European Investment Fund’s (EIF) financial intermediary, Confeserfidi, which was partially funded by JEREMIE Sicily ESF resources. This funding was crucial for Salvatore, as it enabled him to acquire the necessary raw materials and services to launch the company, particularly the development of an IT platform for their online sales. The support from EIF not only facilitated the establishment of GRIN but also aligned with Salvatore's commitment to environmental consciousness and sustainability.

As a result of this tailored financial solution, GRIN successfully launched its range of eco-friendly gardening products, which includes custom-made flower arrangements, ornamental plants, and biodegradable office supplies. The company has since expanded its reach through an online platform and a growing network of physical resellers, effectively promoting urban gardening and sustainability in metropolitan areas.
