Full Credential Description

The European Investment Fund (EIF) and the Catalonian Institute of Finance (Institut Catalá de Finances, ICF) entered into a significant agreement aimed at enhancing access to funding for businesses in Catalonia. This collaboration, established under the EIF-NPI Fund Underwriting Programme, is specifically designed to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-caps by providing EUR 15 million in equity finance.

The primary challenge addressed by this initiative was the limited access to venture capital for Catalonian companies, particularly those seeking investment from European-focused VC funds based outside the region. By committing to this agreement, ICF aims to attract additional investment through international VC funds, thereby facilitating a more robust financial ecosystem for local businesses.

The tailored solution involves EIF transferring part of its investments into VC funds to ICF when these funds invest in Catalonia-based companies that align with ICF’s investment strategy. This strategic partnership not only aims to bolster the growth and innovation of the Catalan economy but also to create jobs and stimulate economic development in the region.

As a result of this agreement, it is anticipated that the infusion of EUR 15 million will significantly enhance the financial resources available to Catalonian SMEs, enabling them to pursue growth opportunities and expand their operations. This initiative marks a pivotal step in strengthening the financial support framework for businesses in Catalonia, ultimately contributing to the region's economic sustainability and development.
