Full Credential Description
Cogito Capital, a venture capital firm based in Warsaw and New York, faced the challenge of establishing a fund focused on late- and growth-stage B2B software, fintech, and mobility companies in Central Europe. The firm aimed to capitalize on the growing number of successful tech companies emerging from the region, such as UIPath and TransferWise, but needed significant financial backing to support its investment strategy.
To address this, Cogito Capital successfully secured 55 million in commitments for its Cogito Fund I, with the European Investment Fund (EIF) acting as the cornerstone investor. This partnership was crucial as it provided the necessary institutional support to attract additional investors, including the Polish Development Fund (PFR). The fund is designed to invest primarily in Series B and C tech companies that are poised for international expansion, leveraging the team's extensive experience in global investments and a deep understanding of the Polish market.
One of the first significant investments made by Cogito Fund I was in MarketInvoice, a leading online invoice finance platform in Europe. The fund participated in a 30 million Series B funding round, which was aimed at scaling MarketInvoice's business loans solution. This investment not only contributed to MarketInvoice's growth but also positioned Cogito as a key player in supporting innovative companies seeking to expand into new markets, including Poland.
The collaboration between Cogito, EIF, and PFR is expected to create substantial opportunities for innovative entrepreneurs in Central and Eastern Europe, enhancing the region's capacity for technological advancement and economic growth. The EIF's commitment, supported by the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), underscores the importance of facilitating access to finance for high-potential technology companies, thereby contributing to job creation and economic development in the region.
