The Yield Lab Europe established a sustainable agrifood tech venture capital
Full Credential Description
The Yield Lab Europe faced the challenge of addressing the significant environmental impact of the agrifood industry, which is one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. With the global population projected to reach 10 billion by 2050, there is an urgent need for sustainable practices in food production that also ensure profitability for farmers. The Yield Lab Europe aimed to invest in technologies that could help decarbonize agriculture, reduce reliance on chemical pesticides and fertilizers, and improve biodiversity on farms.
To tackle these niche issues, The Yield Lab Europe established a sustainable agrifood tech venture capital fund, raising almost 50 million at its second close. This fund focuses on seed- to Series A-stage companies in Europe, with a dual objective of achieving strong financial returns while making a positive environmental impact. The fund has already made seven investments in innovative companies, including N2 Applied, which focuses on biogenic methane reduction in livestock, and Microgen Biotech, which works on soil health.
The results of these investments are promising, as they not only support the European Green Deal and the Farm to Fork Strategy but also provide startups with access to a global network for scaling and commercialization. The Yield Lab Europe is positioned to play a crucial role in transforming the agrifood sector, aiming for zero-carbon agriculture and food production by 2040, thereby enhancing the sustainability and efficiency of food systems while addressing the pressing challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss.
