Full Credential Description

The European Investment Fund (EIF) partnered with UniCredit to launch a Social Impact Banking initiative, providing a EUR 50 million guarantee under the European Commission’s Employment and Social Innovation (EaSI) programme. This initiative specifically targets 2,500 Italian micro firms that typically struggle to access traditional financing due to a lack of collateral. Each micro-enterprise can receive loans of up to EUR 25,000, facilitating their growth and sustainability.

UniCredit is responsible for managing the selection and disbursement of these loans through its extensive national network. The initiative not only provides financial support but also includes mentoring and training services offered by UniGens, a volunteer association of UniCredit employees. This comprehensive approach aims to empower micro-entrepreneurs and social enterprises, helping them develop viable business ideas and improve their chances of success.

The EIF's involvement is significant as it marks the largest EaSI microfinance transaction to date with a systemic bank in Italy. This collaboration is expected to enhance access to finance for vulnerable groups, thereby contributing to job creation and economic development in the region. The initiative reflects a commitment to social responsibility, aligning financial support with broader societal goals.
