The European Investment
Full Credential Description
The European Investment Fund (EIF) and Raiffeisen-Leasing Polska S.A. entered into a guarantee agreement aimed at enhancing lending to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Poland through the Risk Sharing Instrument (RSI). This initiative, a collaboration between the EIF, the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the European Commission, is designed to address the financing challenges faced by innovative SMEs. Under this agreement, Raiffeisen-Leasing Polska is set to provide up to EUR 60 million in debt financing over two years, supported by a 50% guarantee from the EIF. This financial backing allows the leasing company to offer more favorable financing conditions to innovative businesses, thereby facilitating their growth and competitiveness.
This agreement marks a significant milestone as it is the first RSI partnership with a leasing company in Europe, highlighting Raiffeisen-Leasing Polska's commitment to supporting Polish SMEs. The RSI aims to stimulate banks to lend to SMEs and Small Mid-Caps, particularly those engaged in research, development, and innovation activities. The EIF's guarantee covers 50% of the outstanding loan amount in case of default, which mitigates the risk for financial institutions and encourages them to extend credit to businesses that might otherwise struggle to secure funding.
The broader impact of this initiative is substantial, as it contributes to a total loan financing pool exceeding EUR 1.7 billion available to innovative businesses across the EU. The RSI is expected to benefit around 2,500 SMEs, facilitating access to vital investment financing and operational capital necessary for fostering innovation and economic growth in Poland.
