Full Credential Description

Emiliano and Alessandro, who have a background in communications and psychotherapy respectively, opened SMATE, a sneaker store in Frascati, Italy, in 2017. They aimed to create a unique retail experience that not only sold sneakers but also promoted local craftsmanship and creativity. Their store features lesser-known Italian brands and products made from recycled materials, alongside art exhibitions and events that support local artists.

Initially, they sought financing from regional authorities to launch their project, but faced a lengthy and slow process that could have taken up to two years. Instead, they turned to Permicro, which facilitated an EU-guaranteed loan backed by the European Investment Fund (EIF). This financing enabled them to renovate their store, purchase initial stock, and develop an e-commerce platform, effectively launching their business.

As a result of this support, SMATE was able to establish itself as a vibrant community hub for creativity and local craftsmanship. Looking to the future, Emiliano and Alessandro aspire to replicate their success in other small towns, further supporting local artists and expanding their unique retail concept.
