The Manchester China Forum (MCF) faced the challenge of enhancing the relationship between Greater Manchester and China amidst a rapidly evolving global landscape. To address these niche issues, MCF implemented several tailored solutions. They fostered strong political engagement, exemplified by President Xi’s visit in 2015, which elevated communication and collaboration between the two regions. MCF also established partnerships with key Chinese cities such as Wuhan and Shenzhen, facilitating direct investment opportunities. Notably, Chinese firms have invested over £6 billion in Greater Manchester since MCF's inception, with significant projects like the £1 billion Northern Gateway and Airport City developments.

The results of these initiatives have been quantifiable and impactful. MCF's efforts have not only attracted substantial foreign investment but have also enhanced direct connectivity between Manchester and major Chinese cities through airlines like Cathay Pacific and Hainan Airlines. Additionally, the Manchester China Friendship Programme has engaged over 150 students from the University of Manchester, promoting cultural integration and understanding. These achievements underscore MCF's role in positioning Greater Manchester as a key player in the global economy, particularly in fostering UK-China relations.
