Full Credential Description

Lucchini Unipart Rail (LUR), a joint venture between Lucchini RS Group and Unipart, is investing £6.5 million to expand its industrial footprint in Manchester and Doncaster in response to increasing customer demand for rail components. The company is relocating its Wheelset Repair Facility from Chadderton to a larger 63,000 sq ft site at Trafford Park, which is strategically closer to its existing 118,000 sq ft head office and manufacturing facility. This move aims to improve coordination and optimize operations in the region.

In Doncaster, LUR's Bogie Service Facility will move to a new 102,000 sq ft site in Warmsworth, doubling its current capacity. This expansion is crucial for meeting the growing demand for the overhaul and refurbishment of bogies used in various rail vehicles, including passenger rolling stock and freight wagons. The investment not only enhances operational efficiency but also reinforces LUR's long-term commitment to supporting the UK rail sector.

The new facilities are set to be fully operational by Autumn 2025 and will allow LUR to increase its monthly capacity to 800 wheelsets in Manchester and 80 bogies in Doncaster. This expansion is part of LUR's broader growth and service strategy, ensuring the company remains agile and responsive to evolving market needs while maintaining its reputation for safety, quality, and innovation. The investment will also include new machinery and technology to further enhance capabilities, solidifying LUR's position as a trusted supplier of safety-critical components in the UK rail industry.
