Full Credential Description

In 2021, the Manchester China Institute, in collaboration with the Manchester China Forum (MCF) and the University of Manchester’s International Office, launched the Manchester China Friendship Programme (MCFP) to address the challenges faced by new Chinese students transitioning to life in Manchester. With over 9,000 Chinese students in the city, the initiative aimed to facilitate their integration into campus life while enriching the experience for local students. The program pairs Chinese students with Manchester-based students who act as hosts, fostering friendships and enhancing cross-cultural understanding.

The MCFP not only focuses on social integration but also provides practical support, such as employability skills, making the city more welcoming for incoming students. The program has seen significant growth, doubling its participation from the previous year to involve 105 students. Events organized under the MCFP, including Chinese New Year celebrations, concerts, and guided city tours, have successfully engaged over 100 participants from more than 15 nationalities, promoting cultural exchange and community building.

The program's impact is evident in the positive feedback from participants, who express satisfaction with the opportunities to meet new friends and engage in cultural activities. The initiative has created a vibrant community atmosphere, helping students navigate their new environment and build lasting connections.
