Bio Regional

Full Credential Description

Kingfisher faced the challenge of expanding its range of sustainable products to meet growing consumer demand for environmentally friendly options. In response, they engaged Bioregional to develop a comprehensive framework for identifying what constitutes a sustainable product for the home. This initiative followed Bioregional's previous work with Kingfisher's subsidiary, B&Q.

To address this challenge, Bioregional created the Sustainable Home Guidelines, which established clear, annually updated criteria for sustainable products. These guidelines focused on several key areas, including energy and water savings, the use of sustainable materials, and promoting the circular economy. Bioregional set specific standards for various product categories, ensuring that they not only reduced environmental impacts but also offered lower-impact alternatives to conventional products. Additionally, Bioregional provided guidance documents and action plans to help Kingfisher expand its eco-product offerings across diverse categories, from home décor to seasonal items like Christmas decorations.

The impact of these efforts was significant. By 2021/22, the Sustainable Home Product range accounted for 44% of Kingfisher's annual sales, translating to £5.8 billion. This success was recognized in 2023 when Bioregional and Kingfisher received the 'Transformational Partnership' award at the Sustainable Business Awards, highlighting the effectiveness of their collaboration in promoting sustainable home products. Through this partnership, Kingfisher not only enhanced its product offerings but also responded to customer needs for more affordable, comfortable, and healthier living environments.
