Bio Regional

Full Credential Description

In 2020, Bioregional collaborated with developers Summix and Edward Capital to create a sustainability strategy for Augustine Hill, a major mixed-use redevelopment project in the center of Galway, Ireland. The challenge was to ensure that this 3.3-hectare brownfield site would not only be sustainable but also attractive, serving as a new hub for homes, leisure, cultural facilities, and retail. The project is strategically located adjacent to the main train station, aiming to enhance the city center's vibrancy.

To address these challenges, Bioregional employed its One Planet Living® framework to develop a comprehensive sustainability strategy. This involved a thorough review of local needs, the city’s economic and cultural plans, and how the new quarter would integrate into Galway. The resulting strategy outlines a clear vision for Augustine Hill, detailing actions and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress in achieving sustainability goals. This plan is structured around the ten principles of One Planet Living, creating a holistic 'One Planet Action Plan' that addresses social, environmental, and economic sustainability.

As part of this initiative, Bonham Quay, a component of the Augustine Hill redevelopment, was recognized as a leader in One Planet Living. Designed to accommodate 2,600 people, Bonham Quay combines office, retail, restaurant, and cultural spaces, fostering a healthy and greener work environment. Bioregional was tasked with reviewing the development vision for Bonham Quay and creating an operational 'One Planet Action Plan' to enhance sustainability and engage tenants in this mission. The sustainability statement for Augustine Hill was submitted in March and is currently under review, marking a significant step towards realizing a compelling sustainability vision for the project.
