Full Credential Description

In 2012, Singita partnered with Bioregional to implement the One Planet Living framework at Singita Serengeti in Tanzania, aiming to enhance its conservation efforts through sustainable tourism operations. This initiative was driven by the need to integrate environmental sustainability into their hospitality services while also fostering community outreach. By 2013, Singita Serengeti was recognized as a One Planet Community, and by November 2016, the framework was adopted across all six lodges in Southern Africa.

One of the significant challenges Singita faced was the high level of plastic waste generated at its lodges. To address this, they successfully reduced plastic bottle waste by 97% by providing reusable bottles and filtered water for both staff and guests. Additionally, an upgrade to the solar panels at Singita Kruger National Park in March 2017, which included battery storage, resulted in a 50% reduction in carbon emissions and a nearly 60% decrease in fuel usage.

Furthermore, Singita has made strides in community engagement by training ten local individuals in new culinary skills through the Singita Community Culinary School, thereby contributing to the local economy. The overarching goal of these initiatives is to achieve zero carbon emissions and promote sustainable living among staff and the surrounding community, reflecting Singita's commitment to long-term conservation and responsible tourism.
