Full Credential Description

In 2018, Kingfisher initiated its sustainable growth plan, aiming to become a 'net positive' company by 2025. The challenge was to ensure that this plan was robust and resonated with customers. Bioregional was engaged to develop new targets that would streamline Kingfisher's commitments while focusing on the sustainability issues that mattered most to customers and employees. This included addressing sustainable management and the efficient use of resources, particularly concerning customer energy and water consumption.

Bioregional collaborated with Fortitude Partners to establish four new customer-facing goals, which included ambitious targets such as a 50% reduction in customer energy use and a 50% improvement in customer water efficiency by 2025. Additionally, they aimed for 20% of total sales to contribute to creating healthier homes and connecting customers with nature. To support these targets, Bioregional created comprehensive models, including one that calculated the lifetime energy and carbon consumption of Kingfisher's product ranges, which informed the energy use target and established a clear roadmap for achieving it. The strategy was also aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring that Kingfisher's contributions were mapped accordingly.

Ongoing support from Bioregional includes tracking progress through annual sustainability reporting, which involves collating and analyzing data from Kingfisher’s ten operating companies. This process covers around 150 data points related to energy, transport, waste, water, community investment, and employee diversity, providing a comprehensive overview of progress against the set targets. Notably, Kingfisher received a leadership score from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) in 2017, reflecting its commitment to managing carbon emissions and climate change risks.
