Bio Regional
Full Credential Description
In 2019, Bioregional assisted two housing associations, Catalyst Housing Association and Raven Housing Trust, in developing tailored zero-carbon roadmaps aimed at achieving net-zero emissions across their operations, particularly focusing on their housing stock, which accounts for approximately 95% of total emissions. Both organizations faced the challenge of understanding how to transition to net-zero carbon, with Catalyst expressing uncertainty about the necessary resources and steps involved.
Bioregional's approach involved a comprehensive analysis of their operations, including existing housing stock, new developments, offices, and transport. This included conducting a high-level carbon footprint assessment and a gap analysis to identify the discrepancies between current performance and long-term carbon targets. The team evaluated various zero-carbon measures, such as retrofitting, renewable energy adoption, and electric vehicle integration, considering financial implications, local policy contexts, and available technologies.
The outcome of this collaboration was the creation of bespoke zero-carbon roadmaps for both housing associations, which outlined actionable strategies for reaching net-zero. These roadmaps included delivery milestones, assigned responsibilities, and monitoring systems, along with high-level cost estimates and financing options. Both Raven and Catalyst have since adopted these roadmaps and are actively developing extensive retrofit plans and strategies for tenant engagement, providing them with a clear path forward in their zero-carbon ambitions.
