This initiative not only reduces waste but also fosters economic benefits for the community, as evidenced by the involvement of schoolchildren and guests in the recycling efforts.

Alice Wilhelm, the chef at Faru Faru lodge, has embraced the One Planet Living principles in her culinary practices. She is actively working towards eliminating plastic from her kitchen, opting for sustainable alternatives like soap instead of shower gel and seeking out local, plastic-free ingredients for her menus. This approach not only aligns with the wellness tourism trend but also supports local farmers, thereby enhancing the economic impact of the lodge on the surrounding community.

Hermann Naude, who has served as the interim One Planet Living Integrator, has also made notable contributions. His experience includes transitioning a property from generator power to solar energy, resulting in significant fuel savings and a quieter environment. Additionally, he successfully implemented a greywater treatment system that now saves approximately 6,000 liters of water daily through effective irrigation practices. This demonstrates a clear commitment to resource conservation and sustainability, showcasing the tangible benefits of the One Planet Living framework in both operational efficiency and environmental stewardship.
