Bio Regional

Full Credential Description

Bioregional is participating in the UK’s second reduced working hours pilot, implementing a 9-day fortnight from November 4, 2024, to May 2, 2025. This initiative aims to maintain project outputs while reducing working hours, addressing employee wellbeing and productivity. The decision to trial reduced hours stemmed from discussions within a staff working group, which highlighted a strong interest among employees for such a change.

The pilot is supported by the 4-day week campaign group and various academic institutions, providing Bioregional with a peer network for sharing insights and strategies. Previous trials have shown compelling results, with 92% of participating organizations opting to continue with reduced hours post-pilot. Notably, these trials reported a 1.4% average increase in revenue, a 65% reduction in sick days, and a 57% decrease in employee turnover likelihood. Additionally, 71% of employees experienced lower stress and burnout levels, contributing to improved mental and physical health.

Bioregional anticipates that the 9-day fortnight will yield significant efficiencies, including a projected reduction in sick leave that could reclaim 20-30 days of staff time annually. The organization also expects enhanced retention and recruitment, minimizing the disruptions and knowledge loss associated with employee turnover. Success metrics for the trial will be established in collaboration with research partners, focusing on the impact of reduced hours on overall organizational performance and employee satisfaction.
