Bio Regional

Full Credential Description

Bioregional has played a crucial role in the development of Villages Nature® Paris, a sustainable tourism project located three miles from Disneyland Paris. The initiative began in 2005 during the early planning stages, with Bioregional implementing its One Planet Living framework to help the resort meet its ambitious sustainability goals. This framework has guided the project in achieving a harmonious relationship with nature, focusing on environmental performance alongside economic and social benefits for local communities.

The resort, a joint venture between Groupe Pierre & Vacances-Center Parcs and Euro Disney SCA, features 868 cottages and apartments set in a car-free environment, surrounded by lakes, woodlands, and gardens. The project has made significant strides in sustainability, including the creation of habitats and enhancement of biodiversity through the planting of 28,800 trees and 430,000 plants. Notably, less than 10% of the 259-hectare site, which was previously low-biodiversity farmland, has been developed. The Aqualagon, a central feature of the resort, is a large swimming and water play complex heated year-round by a carbon-free geothermal source, showcasing the project's commitment to sustainable energy.

Quantifiable results from the project include the creation of over 600 jobs, with 75% of these positions filled by local residents from Seine et Marne, and an additional 1,600 jobs supported in the surrounding area. The use of timber from certified managed forests in Europe for construction, along with low-carbon concrete in the Aqualagon, further emphasizes the project's dedication to sustainability. Villages Nature® Paris also promotes public transport access, with a frequent bus service to the nearby Marne-la-Vallée railway station, encouraging visitors to travel without cars and reducing the overall environmental impact of tourism.
