Sustainability & Environmental Consulting
Bio Regional
Full Credential Description
Bioregional Oxfordshire faced the challenge of creating sustainable living environments in the region, particularly through the development of new communities. One significant project was the establishment of NW Bicester, the UK’s first eco-town, where Bioregional Oxfordshire collaborated with A2Dominion and Cherwell District Council from 2010 to 2017. The niche issue was the need for a holistic approach to sustainability in new-build communities, which required innovative frameworks and partnerships to ensure effective implementation.
To address these challenges, Bioregional Oxfordshire employed its One Planet Living framework, which emphasizes sustainability across various dimensions, including energy, water, and community well-being. This tailored solution involved working closely with developers to integrate sustainable practices into the planning and construction processes of new homes and communities. For instance, the Kings Farm Close project introduced 15 ultra-low carbon homes in an Oxfordshire village, showcasing the practical application of the One Planet Living principles.
The results of these initiatives were quantifiable and significant. The NW Bicester eco-town not only set a precedent for sustainable urban development in the UK but also demonstrated measurable benefits in reducing carbon emissions and promoting healthier living environments. The collaborative projects, such as Eco-Bicester and One Planet Oxfordshire, further contributed to a collective vision for a greener future, enhancing the quality of life for residents and fostering a low-carbon economy across the region.
