Sustainability & Environmental Consulting
Bio Regional
Full Credential Description
In 2019, Bioregional, in collaboration with Cherwell District Council and Cambridge Cleantech, established Oxfordshire Greentech as part of the £3.2 million OxFutures project aimed at scaling the low-carbon economy in the region. The initiative faced the challenge of creating a cohesive network for diverse businesses, ranging from legal services to low-carbon energy providers, to collaborate effectively. Since its inception, Oxfordshire Greentech has grown to include 71 member businesses, demonstrating its success in fostering a community focused on sustainability.
A significant milestone for the network was the appointment of Hannah Scott as its first Chief Executive in April 2023, marking a transition from Bioregional's direct management to a more supportive role. This change was designed to empower the network to operate independently while still benefiting from Bioregional's expertise and connections. Under Scott's leadership, the network aims to enhance its support for members and continue its growth trajectory.
Key achievements include the successful launch event at Oxford University’s Saïd Business School, which attracted over 170 attendees and facilitated networking among local businesses and organizations. The Access to Finance conference held in March 2023 was another highlight, where innovators and investors convened to discuss funding opportunities, resulting in the creation of a Special Interest Group to provide ongoing support for members seeking funding for green initiatives.
The "Switch Up Your Lunch" campaign, which encourages participants to commit to vegetarian or vegan lunches, saw participation from 22,000 individuals across 47 organizations in 2022, showcasing the network's ability to engage the community in sustainable practices. Additionally, events focused on zero-carbon homes and the transition to a zero-carbon economy have positioned Oxfordshire Greentech as a leader in promoting sustainable building practices and innovation in the region.
Overall, Oxfordshire Greentech has established itself as a vital player in the low-carbon sector, facilitating collaboration among businesses and driving initiatives that contribute to a sustainable future for Oxfordshire.
