Changi Airport Group (CAG) faced the challenge of enhancing passenger engagement and experience beyond the physical airport environment. Recognizing the need to innovate and strengthen connections with travelers, CAG sought to create a digital platform that would replicate the unique experiences of Changi Airport in a virtual setting. This led to the development of ChangiVerse, an immersive metaverse experience designed in collaboration with Accenture.
To bring this vision to life, the ChangiVerse was built on the popular online gaming platform Roblox, allowing users to explore a digital version of Jewel Changi Airport, which features attractions like the Rain Vortex and Forest Valley. The platform includes interactive games that mirror real-world activities available at the airport, such as a go-kart racetrack and a cycling path with dinosaur themes. Users can earn tokens for virtual goods and interact with non-playable characters that enhance their experience by providing navigation and fun facts.
The tailored solution not only made the airport's offerings accessible to a global audience but also created a "sticky" environment that encourages repeat visits. Within the first three months of its launch, ChangiVerse attracted over 7 million visits, including more than 2.5 million unique users from around the world. The initiative was further promoted through digital marketing, influencer engagement, and contests, significantly boosting interest and interaction with the platform.
ChangiVerse exemplifies how CAG is redefining travel by merging real and virtual experiences, ultimately enhancing customer engagement and creating lasting memories associated with the airport. This innovative approach positions Changi Airport not just as a transport hub but as a destination in its own right, showcasing the potential for businesses to engage customers in new and meaningful ways.
