Additionally, Microsoft built two control towers for inventory management across its extensive partner and supplier network, utilizing an Azure-based solution that created a digital twin of the supply chain. This innovation improved decision-making speed and resilience. A blockchain-based solution was also implemented to enhance transparency and security, while a small Language Model facilitated advanced AI applications within the supply chain functions, providing cutting-edge insights and planning capabilities.

In terms of spare parts management, Microsoft transitioned from relying on third-party services to insourcing this function, which led to nearly $100 million in savings within a year and a reduction in data center emissions. This comprehensive approach to supply chain management has allowed Microsoft to maintain a consistent annual growth rate of over 30% for Azure, ensuring that its data center capacity scales effectively with its expansion. The holistic strategy unifies planning, procurement, deployment, and maintenance of data center equipment, positioning Microsoft to drive efficiencies and lead in sustainability within the cloud computing industry.
