Generali, a global leader in the insurance industry, faced the challenge of equipping its workforce with the necessary digital skills to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving landscape influenced by advanced technologies like AI and automation. Recognizing that upskilling was essential, Generali sought to integrate these emerging technologies into employee workstreams while preparing them for new roles within the company. To address this need, they partnered with Accenture to launch the We LEARN program, a comprehensive initiative aimed at reinventing their learning strategy and reskilling their global workforce of over 82,000 employees.

The We LEARN program identified essential future-ready skills, including data strategy, data ethics, generative AI, and sustainability. It provided an on-demand learning platform featuring over 200 courses available in 25 languages, encompassing various learning formats such as classroom sessions, virtual learning, gamified modules, and animations. Additionally, the program facilitated talent mobility by offering “mini-masters” programs and training in critical areas like data science and cybersecurity. A new digital platform and mobile app were introduced, granting employees access to the full learning catalog, enabling course registration, and allowing them to track their learning history.

As a result of the We LEARN initiative, Generali achieved 100% engagement in continuous upskilling among its employees, with an impressive average of 32.7 training hours completed per employee. Furthermore, 1,200 senior managers were trained specifically on generative AI, demonstrating a significant commitment to developing advanced digital skills within the organization. The program not only fostered a culture of learning but also empowered employees to take ownership of their upskilling journeys, leading to a more agile, skilled, and satisfied workforce. The content of the program is continuously updated to meet the evolving needs of the company, ensuring that employees are well-prepared to identify strategic data and AI use cases, driving innovation and improving business outcomes.
