Full Credential Description

UK-based renewable energy developer Elements Green faced significant challenges in financing its ambitious Staythorpe Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and expanding its pipeline of solar and energy storage projects. The company required a robust financial structure to support the construction of the Staythorpe BESS, which is set to become the second-largest standalone battery project in the UK, with a capacity of 360 MW and 720 MWh of energy storageenough to power over 95,000 s for a full day. To address these challenges, White Case LLP provided tailored legal advice on a series of financings. This included a construction bridge facility from Goldman Sachs specifically for the Staythorpe BESS, as well as vendor financing from Hithium, the battery system supplier. Additionally, a refinancing of an existing development expenditure facility was completed with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) to further support Elements Greens project pipeline. The successful completion of these financings is a transformative milestone for Elements Green, enabling the company to accelerate its battery storage deployment, which is critical to the UKs net-zero ambitions. The Staythorpe project, strategically positioned for optimal grid infrastructure, is expected to have an operational life of 40 years and represents one of Europes largest energy storage investments to date. This financing package not only demonstrates the confidence of global investors in Elements Greens capabilities but also strengthens the UKs energy resilience and supports the transition to clean power infrastructure.
