Full Credential Description

Braskem, the largest petrochemical company in Latin America, faced significant challenges in its journey towards decarbonization, particularly in aligning its operations with net-zero goals by 2050. The company required a tailored approach to address the complexities of reducing carbon emissions across its six main facilities. To facilitate this, individualized decarbonization plans were developed, which outlined business cases and implementation strategies for 18 proactive decarbonization pathways.

A key component of the solution was the creation of a Roadmap Prioritization Tool, which consolidated decarbonization data and provided insights on project maturity and cost-effectiveness. This strategic tool enabled Braskem to approve over 160 initiatives for its 2050 net-zero roadmap, with 70 initiatives prioritized for its 2030 goals. These initiatives are projected to achieve an estimated 30% reduction in carbon emissions across the company's major complexes.

One notable initiative involves the management of over 5,500 hectares of eucalyptus plants, which will supply renewable steam energy sourced from plant biomass. This initiative is expected to reduce emissions at one of Braskem's main facilities by approximately 50% annually. Through its partnership with Accenture, Braskem is not only setting a new standard for sustainability in the petrochemical industry but is also creating innovative economic models that positively impact the environment and the industry as a whole.
