International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) faced the complex challenge of integrating the quality systems of a newly acquired nutrition and biosciences business, which included their SampleManager Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and Northwest Analytics Focus EMI enterprise manufacturing intelligence solution, across 345 global sites with over 500 applications, including 100 manufacturing and laboratory locations. The existing LIMS environment was hosted in Microsoft Azure and shared across five manufacturing sites, involving an ecosystem of approximately eight interconnected applications, over 300 users, and more than 400 interfaces, making the migration highly intricate.

To address these issues, IFF partnered with Accenture to develop a tailored migration strategy. This involved moving the LIMS system from Azure to AWS, leveraging AWS’s scalability, security, and compliance standards to support structured business growth and operational efficiency. The migration was executed in phases, beginning with site transitions, and culminated in a seamless move of the entire ecosystem to AWS. Accenture provided extensive technical expertise, process engineering, system architecture, change management, and staff training to ensure a smooth transition.

The results were highly specific and impactful: the go-live of the cloud-based solution was a significant success, enabling IFF to manage quality control processes more effectively through enhanced capabilities of SampleManager LIMS and Focus EMI in the manufacturing space. This cloud migration laid a robust foundation for future digital opportunities across other business functions, improving operational reliability, speed, and connectivity. It also strengthened compliance with industrial and governmental standards, ensuring safer and higher-quality products. Ultimately, this targeted cloud transition has positioned IFF to continually innovate, expand capabilities at other sites, and reinforce their market leadership in food, beverage, and biosciences sectors.
