The education sector has faced significant challenges in the wake of the pandemic, necessitating a thorough analysis of risks within educational institutions. A comprehensive review of 117 education providers' strategic risk registers revealed a total of 2,660 individual risks, highlighting the pressing need for effective risk management strategies. The analysis identified finance-related risks as the most prevalent, accounting for 18% of the total risks, followed by organizational risks at 14%, which included external factors such as the impact of coronavirus and business continuity. Staffing-related risks comprised 10% of the identified risks. The study also focused on the residual risks that education providers deemed 'high' in severity after applying controls and mitigations. Out of the sample, 367 risks (14%) were classified as high, predominantly in the areas of finance, organizational operations, and student numbers.
