Although a deep clean is performed at the bakery every evening this slip occurred during a daytime shift. Slip at Work Claim In this case, our client, who worked as a bakery operative for many years, claims she had not been warned about the slippery floor and no warning signs, wet floor signs or cones were in the area. She said it was common practice between conveyor belts of gateau and rolls or seasonal produce, to scoop cream or chocolate from hoppers to bowls. Buckets of water were placed on the floor for bakery staff to wash their hands and so sometimes there would be a mixture of water, chocolate and cream on the floor. Our client added that sinks were not provided in this area for hand washing, there was no way to dry hands, operatives were transferring produce above head height and it was not uncommon for spillage to occur. “In this case Park Cake bakery breached a number of statutory duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act, as well as their duty of care under the Occupiers Liability Act,” said Personal Injury solicitor, , who handled the claim. “The bakery initially denied there was any slippery substances on the floor and stated that the area was clean and dry. However, it was later revealed that common working practices quite often led to cream, chocolate and water being spilt onto the floor in this area and we were able to settle
